    Technical:  Means/Methods

    • Reviews and incorporates historical data from purchase orders, bid tabulations, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports and the job costs system into unit cost, man-hour and crew production figures.
    • Reviews proposal specifications and drawings, prepares lists of bid items and quantities.  Attends pre-bid meetings and meets with owner to determine scope of work.
    • Recommends vendors and subcontractors for the project; discusses and obtains appropriate quotations in coordination with the Purchasing Department.
    • Interfaces with owner, architect/engineer and subcontractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
    • Performs or coordinates quantity takeoff, assembles direct cost estimate and analyzes alternate construction methods to determine cost effectiveness. 
    • Assists in the research of and cost estimates for alternate construction methods.
    • Reviews design options and recommends best solution based on cost, value engineering or availability of materials.
    • Assists in tracking awarded contracts as assigned through review of cost reports and discussions with Project Teams.
    • Supports Project Team by estimating extra work items and change orders.
    • Performs other duties as assigned including policing jobsites to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe workplace.


    Technical:  Delay Free Production/Quality

    • Analyzes and incorporates delay free systems into the preparation of the work plan of estimates/bids.



    • Incorporates the Allan Myers Safety Program and associated costs into estimates. Identifies high-risk activities and coordinates with Safety Department to determine if additional costs are required. Transfers all safety information related to estimates to the Project Team.



    • Assists with department functions, including coordination and assisting with staff training.

    Administrative:  Contract/ Scheduling/ Budget

    • Reviews contract prior to bid, if provided, to ensure that terms, conditions, exclusions and qualifications are included in the owner’s contract and in compliance with original AI proposal.
    • If contract is not provided, ensures that proposal states that Allan Myers contract, or a mutually agreed upon contract, is used where applicable.
    • Develops pre-bid draft schedule; once awarded, transfers draft schedule to Project Team.
    • Transfers estimate and related information to Project Team to create cost code structure.


    • B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, related major, or equivalent. Continuing education in construction is highly desirable 
    • Minimum of 2 years of construction experience in estimating, operations and/or engineering required
    • OSHA 10 hour required

    Physical Demands: Regularly requires the ability to sit, use hands/fingers, talk and hear. Occasionally requires the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.  Occasionally requires the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Requires the following specific types of vision: close, distance, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    Coordinates and performs major estimating function for one or more disciplines (e.g., earthwork, utilities, drainage, asphalt paving, structural concrete, mechanical piping, building trades, site concrete, etc.). 


    Requires occasional day travel to deliver bids, attend pre-bid meetings, visit job sites and/or to attend conferences or training classes.
